CAMRA’s National Cider & Perry Pub of the Year 2023
turned out to be right here in East Devon!
The Tom Cobley Tavern did the Treble!

It was a busy year for the team at the Tom Cobley Tavern, winning branch Cider Pub of the Year in March they went on to win the regional award in the Summer. Then in October the Tom Cobley Tavern in Spreyton was crowned National Cider & Perry Pub of the Year 2023.

Roger and Carol Cudlip who have run the pub for more than 20 years with their daughter Lucy, were presented with the award by CAMRA’s National Competition Coordinator, Sarah Newson.

Judges commended the pub’s passion and knowledge for ensuring quality cider and perry is always served with a warm welcome. The dedication of all involved to ensure the pub was a pleasure to visit was clear to see

Both branch Cider Reps and many branch members went along to support the pub and celebrate their achievement.

The Tom Cobley is a worthy winner, attracting visitors from far and wide. Situated on the edge of Dartmoor, this family run 16th-century pub is the hub of Spreyton village life with a focus on supporting its community, with a friendly welcome to all.

The award came as no surprise to regulars and local CAMRA members as the pub offers at least 25 real ciders and perries all served at top quality and temperature; knowledgeable bar staff and comprehensive tasting notes. The pub showcases its wide range of ciders and perries and also clearly supports CAMRA’s cider definition by showing which are ‘real’, concentrate and fruit on its blackboard, including the producer, style and strength.

No stranger to CAMRA accolades – including an impressive haul of local and regional awards - the Tom Cobley Tavern was CAMRA's National Pub of the Year 2006 and a finalist in 2012.

They are the only pub in the UK to ever win both Pub of the Year and Cider Pub of the Year, a unique achievement!
