“Les Grandes Bières de Wallonie”
(or "Great Wallonian Ales")
A tutored tasting of beers from Belgium’s less well known southern half.
Our Tutor Tim Webb, former editor of Good Beer Guide Belgium, will give an introduction to some of the beer styles that originate in the Hainaut beer belt, and the way they are enjoyed.
Saturday 18th January at 12:30
"Belgian Winter Ales" (aka: “Belgium in Winter”)
A tutored tasting of some Winter ales, Christmas brews and New Year beers of Belgium.
Our tutor is Tim Webb, author of eight editions of the Good Beer Guide Belgium, who will explain the traditions that lie behind the creation of Belgium’s 400 or so Christmas, New Year and Winter beers, and bring along six that show the different styles, including some rarely seen in the UK. Discover the beer culture that is so much a part of its home country that UNESCO has added it to its list of the world’s Intangible Cultural Heritage.
Saturday 18th January at 14:30
"Exploring the world of the artisan cidermaker"
Looking at some of the exciting developments driven by dedicated cidermakers in the West Country, often emerging small producers, but by no means all.
Cheese & crackers available between samples!
Presented by our Branch Cider reps. Chris Coles and Yvonne Nolan, this is just a taster of what's out there, with six or seven to try.
It’s with great pleasure we announce that the Exeter & East Devon CAMRA (Campaign for Real Ale) branch will be holding its 35th Exeter Festival of Beer at the Exeter Corn Exchange, Market Street, Exeter, EX1 1BW on the:
Thursday 16th Jan 16:00 to 22:00
Friday 17th Jan 11:00 to 22.00
Saturday 18th Jan 11:00 to 22.00
I’m pleased to say that last year’s festival was very successful, which resulted in running out of beer and cider at about 17.30 hrs. We have therefore increased the beers from 64 to 69 casks. There will still be seven ciders and two perries.
Advance tickets will be available for the Friday and Saturday sessions. Whether it's Christmas, Birthday or just a gift, tickets make a great present. See www.exeter.camra.org.uk for more details.
The Corn Exchange which is close to the main town centre is a superb venue for this type of festival. Hot and cold food will be available with wine and spirits being offered as an alternative which will be sold behind the Corn Exchange bar.
In addition to all these lovely beverages, we will have games, tombola and products. Last year we had a French beers tutored tasting session. These sessions are proving very successful and this year we will be offering “Les Grandes Bières de Wallonie” (or Great Wallonian ales) and “Belgium in Winter”. We will also be holding an "Exploring the world of the Artisan cidermaker" tutored cider tasting session.
These highly sought-after tutored tasting sessions are ticket-only events; details can be found on our website when tickets go on sale in November.
Our breweries, pubs and generally the hospitality industry are still suffering. Supporting CAMRA helps us help them. So please come along to the festival, try the different drinks and styles, and have a good time. Drinking responsibly of course.
Hope to see you there.
Cheers
