Gray's Devon Cider
Halstow Farm
Tedburn St. Mary
Exeter EX6 6AN
T: 01647 61236
E: ku.oc.redicnovedsyarg@redic

Bottles (plastic) and Bag in Box.
The Grays have been farming at Halstow since the 1660s. You are standing in living history. The relatively recent long cider barn and cellar only went up in the 1850s and has seen quite a few changes in that time – to the point that now it boasts a belt press, replacing the pack presses and screw presses that preceded it. Cidermaking however remains as traditional as ever. Fruit is from the extensive farm orchards and the juice is fermented in an array of 300 gallon tanks before being carefully tasted and blended into oak barrels, hogsheads and pipes in the cellar beneath the barn ready for customer tasting and sale. This is the benchmark of farm cider, wonderful stuff.

Lyme Bay Winery and Cider
Shute Rd
Axminster EX13 7PW
T: 01297 551355
E: ku.oc.sknirdwbl@ofni

Bottled Cider mainly but also limited availability for BiB, call to check first.
Having started life in the 1980s as Lyme Bay Cider the business has gradually changed its emphasis towards fruit wine and now liqueurs and spirits. Very good cider (Jack Ratt) is still made though, although the fruit is pressed over the border at Burrow Hill and brought down to Devon for fermentation, finishing and bottling.

Palmerhayes Cider
Palmerhayes Farm
Calverleigh
nr. Tiverton
EX16 8BA
T: 01884 254579
E: wendyfindlay@hotmail. com

Polypins and a range of bottles.
The Greenslade family have farmed at Palmerhayes Farm since 1905, a mixed farm of cattle and arable plus cider from their own orchard. Currently run by Aubrey and Sheila, ably assisted by their daughter Wendy, with the next generation not far behind. The cider is very traditional in character and in production, using a large hydraulic pack press, of the type once widespread. They distribute widely in Devon with weekly runs in the County into holiday shops, caravan parks and elsewhere. A well-liked cider, just as it always used to be.

Ridge & Furrow Cider
Weekes Farm
Mutterton
Cullompton
Devon EX15 1RN
T: 07956 500490
E: ku.oc.redicworrufdnaegdir@nitsuj

Bottles and Bag in Box.
The main income for this small farm is from the sale of their cider fruit to one of the large cidermakers. However, of recent years they have begun to make top quality cider themselves. Justin Bartley has added a small cidery, with emphasis on cleanliness and hygiene, installing a modern press and stainless-steel fermenters. He uses fruit from the Ridge and Furrow orchard just behind the farmhouse and nearly all of his cider is keeved or racked during fermentation to slow and ultimately stop the fermentation, retaining natural sweetness where required. Delightfully fresh tasting.

Bottles only.
Mike Shorland, the owner of this enterprise, was awarded “Best Rural Small Business in the South West” by Food & Drink Devon back in 2021. He has planted over 300 fruiting trees of all sorts in his 8 acre field, happily quite a lot of them apples. It’s so good to see new blood coming into the cidermaking world. Mike always knew he was going to plant his own orchard, read his story here: An Orchard Dreamer. Our cider reps have only managed to taste one of his ciders so far (Orchard Storm) but it was perfect, clean and fresh and very appley.

Sandford Orchards
The Cider Works
Commonmarsh Lane
Crediton EX17 1HJ
T: 01363 777822
E: ku.oc.sdrahcrodrofdnas@redic

Bottles, Bag in Box and Keg.
This relatively new company has come so far in such a short time inspired by the drive and enthusiasm of the owner Barny Butterfield and his team. Located now in the old ciderworks of the long gone Creedy Valley Cider in Crediton it has brought life back to this little corner of Devon. Their biggest selling cider is the crisp and fruity “Devon Red” (which started life as “Devon Red Bull” attracting unwanted attention from the makers of “Red Bull”- situation now resolved). However, amongst some of us, the most famous is “The General”, a satisfyingly strong and complex vintage cider from the mighty oak vat of the same name. You can’t go wrong really – and there is more if you ask.

Smith Hayne Orchards
Cheriton Fitzpaine
Crediton EX17 4HR
T: 07531 516567
E: Sales & Contact Form

Bottles only (75cl).
An impressively wide range of specialist ciders with named blends of cider apple varieties from their own orchards and almost unbelievably detailed information on fermentation, finishing, bottle conditioning and final analytical details. Drool just reading it! Academic masterpieces.

Venton's Devon Cyder
Willis Cottage
Clyst St Lawrence
Cullompton EX15 2NL
T: 07811 963853
E: ku.oc.snotnev@kram

Bottles, Bag in Box and Polypins.
Mark Venton is an enthusiastic traditionalist. He presses through straw using a twin-screw press that he rebuilt himself with green oak. A 1 ton charge of milled fruit, it takes a day or two to press out – a little bit at a time, by hand. The straw imparts a subtle soft and unique taste. His Dry and Medium ciders, with their quirky names, are particular favourites. Proper Stuff.

Woodsy's Cider
Woods Village Shop
Exmouth Road
Colaton Raleigh
Nr Sidmouth, Devon
T: 01395 568406
E: moc.redic-sysdoow@tiyub

Bottles and Bag in Box.
Jeremy Woods and his family run the Woods village shop in Colaton Raleigh. He started making cider after a conversation in the pub about how years ago the village used to make its own cider for its townspeople. Now Jeremy buys fresh apple juice from Somerset farmers and produces 2000 to 3000 litres of cider a year and sells it in his shop and to local pubs. His Sunset Dry Cider and Sunrise Medium Cider have both previously won prizes at the Devon County Show.

Initiatives such as the “Real Cider Sold Here” window stickers and also campaigns such as It’s #CiderMonth will hopefully help to get a few more of their ciders into our local pubs!
