Exeter & East Devon

Exmouth-Budleigh Sat 3rd May 2025

On Weds 30th, I checked out the new 'Spoons -- The Red Rocks at Devon Cliffs holiday park near Exmouth. It opened on Tuesday. It's set on the right, halfway down the hill between the park entrance and the beach by a lot of other attractions. Good views with lots of terracing and a nice building but disappointing beer choice today - just Ruddles and Doom. They hope to have Abbot soon and hopefully a local like Devon Dumpling.

Anyway for those keen to visit and take in a couple of other different drinking places I'm doing the following on Saturday

Meet 10.30 at the Bath House on Exmouth seafront (recently reopened and CAMRA friendly) for breakfast if required. Catch Stagecoach 95 open top bus at 11.35 from seafront (leaves the stop near the station at 10.30) Get off halfway down the hill at Devon Cliffs and visit The Red Rocks. Then walk across the caravan park and join the South-west Coast Path up the cliffs over West Down Beacon and descend towards Budleigh until a footpath left leads to the East Devon Golf Clubhouse which is open to non members. They usually serve three real ales. From here we carry on down into Budleigh Salterton with visits to the Feathers and/or the Salterton Arms possible. Buses back to Exmouth the 157 and 357 leave about every 30 minutes.

Anyone wanting to just do the Bath House and/or the Red Rocks that's fine. For those up for the walk I suggest walking boots or sturdy shoes and be prepared for some hill climbs.

Cheers Martyn
