Central to the St Thomas community and well supported by the local population. The pub was built in the nineteen sixties to replace an earlier pub (at number 114). The earlier pub was first recorded in 1850 and demolished in 1957. A Wetherspoon pub since 2009. The building is on the site of the New Theatre (opened in 1910) and is opposite St Thomas church, where there is a monument to Grace Darling (the Northumbrian lifeboat heroine). Regular 'tap takeover' events are held in most months. External drinking areas are designated areas of the pavement.
